  Change in Cheque Sending Policy
Cheques will be sent out in the first week of every month. This is because there are a large number of cheques which have not been cashed resulting in difficulty of tracking the cheques. Hence we shall send out cheques in the first week of every month for the previous month's tournaments and winners will have up to one month from the date on the cheque to cash it.

New users registering on our site will now have to verify their email addresses provided during registration for activation of their account. This will enable us to communicate better with you and inform you of the latest, that's happening on games24x7.com. In addition to this, we would like to avoid users from creating multiple usernames resulting in hampering the experience of most of our other regular and serious players.

The email verification process is simple. Once a username has been created, you will have to check your email to activate your account. Clicking on a link in the email will take you to a page which will inform you that your email has been verified. Once your email is verified, you can login in with your newly created username and password on games24x7.com

To better serve our current players, we are running an email verification program starting at 1:00PM on September 17th, 2008. Users registered before August 30th, 2008 will now have to verify their email address. To verify your email address, please check your email and click on the link in the email that we sent you. We have sent emails to all our players on the email id they provided during registration on www.games24x7.com. If you had not provided a correct/valid email address at that time, please re-register on the website. If you believe you had provided a valid email address, then please check if the email has gone into your Spam/Bulk folder. If you still didn't receive an email from us, please re-register on the website. Most importantly, verification of email is mandatory and inability to do so will result in you not being able to login on www.games24x7.com. Finally, all accounts pending email verification will be deleted by September 30th, 2008.

We have received various suggestions from users regarding a notification system when a tournament starts. Earlier, in fixed player tournaments, when the tournament starts, there was no way to know that the tournament has started unless the user is on the tournament list screen viewing the details of the tournament which has begun.

We now have this notification mechanism in place where you will not be required to constantly keep checking whether the fixed player tournament in which you joined has started or not. On games24x7.com, if a fixed player tournament has started and you've joined it, you'll get a pop-up which will contain your game window without you having to do anything. All that is needed is that you be logged in and once your tournament starts, the game window will automatically pop-up.

IE Users - Please note that for users on IE, the game window will open up and take the center of the screen.

Firefox Users - For all Firefox fans, a new minimized window will open up which will blink to draw your attention to it. We are working to test our systems with other browsers too.

Hey, make sure you DISABLE your Pop-Up Blocker to avail of this facility.

Unregistering players from Fixed Player Tournaments when they log out

Many of you have expressed your concerns regarding there not being anyone on the other side of the table when a tournament starts. In most cases, this is because users are logged in but not on the site (the solution for which is the auto pop-up) or the other reason is people having logged out and left.

In the latter case, we have implemented a system where by if people logout from games24x7.com, they will be unregistered from all fixed player tournaments which had not started when they logged out. This will to a great extent ensure that when a tournament starts, there is a player on both sides of the table/board actively playing the game.

Based on feedback from our chess enthusiasts, we realized couple of rules had been left out but needed to be in there. Hence we moved quickly to incorporate two modifications which will bring about more realism to the game and enhance playing experience.

Mating Material Required to Win on Time - A player can lose on time only if his opponent has mating/winning material (adequate material to checkmate the player in question) at the time when the player's time ran out. Otherwise the game is declared a draw.

Tie Breaker Game - As players will similar skill levels compete, it becomes more likely that the game will end in a tie with each player winning one board. Since our format allows for two boards in a regular game to remove the white advantage, the match ending in a tie would be decided by a tie breaker rule which wasn't very consistent.

We now have a third game (the tie breaker game) which will kick in only if the score at the end of the first two boards is the game. In this case, the following rules will ensue:

(i)
The player who played black in the second game will now play white.
(ii)
White has six minutes on the clock, black has five.
(iii)
If the game is drawn, Black wins.

Three identical positions and the game is drawn - We are constantly working to make the chess game better for our players. As a result, based on your valuable feedback, we have incorporated the rule that if three identical positions occur on the board, the game is drawn.

Apart from the various features above, we are constantly working to improve user experience on our website. As a result, based on various suggestions received to have a direct link to the Chess Tournament Lists page, we have added a separate Rummy and Chess link on the top of the homepage instead of a Tournaments link which always took people to the Rummy Tournaments Page. Apart from this, we also have the What's New? link which will provide information on the latest developments of games24x7.

Thanks for all your feedback and keep it coming at  feedback@games24x7.com
